I think this is a fair admission system and I will explain why. Let's take two stundents: one graduated a philology section, and the other one a math&computer science section. The Bacalaureat exam is way more easier for the first student and he will get a higher grade than the second student. In this case the first student has a bigger chance to obtain a place at polytechnic university, and this is not fair because he hadn't studied as much math as the second one. So, that admission test is meant to counterbalance or overturn the situation described above.Ex3cuTioN wrote:Now...that i am in the last highschool year i think i should start choosing a college :-?
For now, i'll just stick with "Universitatea Politehnica din Timisoara", there is plenty of information on their site, but i need time to read all that "crap".
From what i've seen the admission formula is
m = (4n + b) / 5
where n = grade of the math examn, b = grade from "bacalaureat" (i don't think this can be translated in english)
So...the math exam has a way higher procentage than our stupid examn "BAC".
Let's talk in English!

I agree with your statement, but there are 8 ways of admission at this university, this is the first one (better for me), there are 7 more.Ciprian wrote:I think this is a fair admission system and I will explain why. With so many options I think it is easy to be admitted there. Where I entered, you had only one option: a math test which was 60% of the final admission grade (the 40% that remains is divided into two parts: 20% - the Bacalaureat grade; 20% - either the Math/Computer Science/Physics grade from BAC, either the math test, so in the end the math test could be 80%). Still, there was an exception: on condition that you had a minimum third place reward in a national contest at maths, physics, computer-science, you could enter directly, without the exam.

It seems i'm lucky :P
I'll choose the first exam type because i don't want to waste time with our bacalaureat exam, i hope though i'll get above 7.5 (i'm going for 8 XD ) , the thing that matters there is that math exam from the university. I'm starting private paid classes with a good math teacher, i hope he'll help me in this math journey that i'm going through this year (the start is hard...but then maybe it'll be a pleasure, i don't like math that much...but my passion is programming, so if i have to learn math in other to be a programmer, i'll do it :-? ).
Anyway they have a nice test book :D http://www.upt.ro/administrare/dgac1/fi ... e_2012.pdf
